Five minutes once a month spent checking your tyres can prevent punctures, reduce fuel consumption, and potentially save your life. Here is a simple checklist to follow.
A simple monthly tyre check takes no more than five minutes and requires no specialist equipment. Start with tyre pressure — check all four tyres (and the spare if your vehicle has one) when cold using a pressure gauge. Refer to your vehicle handbook or the door sticker for the correct values. Incorrect pressure is one of the most common — and easily avoidable — tyre issues on UK roads.
Next, check tread depth across the full width and circumference of each tyre. Use the 20p coin test as a quick check, or a dedicated gauge for accuracy. Look at the wear pattern too — uneven wear often flags an underlying issue with alignment, suspension, or driving habits. Then inspect each tyre sidewall for cuts, bulges, or embedded objects such as nails or screws, which may be causing a slow leak.
Finally, pay attention to how the car behaves while driving. New vibrations, a pulling sensation to one side, or a change in steering responsiveness can all indicate a developing tyre issue. Catching these early is far preferable to discovering a problem at speed on a motorway. If you notice anything during your check that you are unsure about, Castle Mobile Tyres can attend and inspect your tyres — just give us a call.
